Questions for Just add water

1. Who gives Dirk authority and how did he become the leader?
2. What is in the Box that Ray looks into ?
3. Why is that Rite Valu girl so excited when ray was so sad? Does she like Ray? Is she single and just waiting for him (her white knight)?

Me a Writer thats a joke

Is this a joke? Maybe a retorical question?

A writer in my opinion is someone who writes what they want and are willing to let others see their ideas. The spread of the words they express and write is what makes them writers to me. I am definitely not a writer, no way no how, and if it wasnt for this class you wouldnt see what i am writing now or anything at all. None of the other posts would exist because i am not a writer and dont feel it necessary to express my ideas since i honestly have no vested intrest or intrest in general in what we are doing. The topics are ehh for me at best and i blog because i am told to do so.
I am not a writer, I am more like a puppet having my strings pulled doing exactly what i am being told to do.

Just Add Water

Three of the best words for a lazy person
When your feeling lazy can there be anything better to hear than just add water cuz then you know there is basically no work involved. The directions couldnt be more simple right 3 words what could go wrong. thank goodness i do not live on my own because if i did i would have to actually cook which i can do but really i am lazy and just adding water is so much easier. I like to do things as fast as possible and save as much time as i can so that i can do more things that i actually care about. My favorite things that you just add water to is Crystal light Iced tea and the soups you get in the cup. So easy to make and right at your fingertips.

A farmer REALLY?!?!?!?

Why am i reading an article from a farmer? he is a farmer not some big wig famous writer or professor but a regular joe schmo farmer. Now that is funny
This shows how everyone is entitled to their opinion and can get their ideas out there no matter of education or profession. He wants to express how we Americans are greedy and wasteful and well the only way i can describe that is by this (what i wrote in the class freewrite).

The article was showing how the United States was greedy and wasteful with all their fossil fuels and energy sources. The only way I can express greed and wastefulness is through the great american classic "the Simpsons". In one of the episodes Mr. Burns blocks out the sun. Now that is greed since he does it for ultimate power. Mr. Burns is a greedy and hordeful old man who wants everything for himself and wants to be all powerful. Since he owns the nuclear powerplant (the only other power source for the town) he blocks the sun out with a giant metal blocker making it completely dark and forcing people to obey his commands and pay to use the energy. From reading the article I felt like he was describing the United States as hordeful and greedy because of how we depleted all of our fossil fuels. Therfore the united states is very much like Mr. Burns in my example. Greed makes people do things that are completely out of context. So to me Greed and waste looks like MR. BURNS from the Simpsons.

Youtube

Yay we are watching youtube! Great maybe we will have some laughs and get to see some interesting stuff......
Nope it is Jacques Derrida giving us his opinion about writing, I am so thrilled. I mean i dont really care about writing i am more of a history and numbers guy but i guess you need to write in other to recall, relive, and practice both.
In every psychology class i have ever taken i get to hear about this Frued character who tells you about a dream in which you are naked in front of everyone and they can see you. That is probably on of the worst things i can imagine but in writing i guess it is a good thing to let everything be transparent and seen since it will allow for everyone to hopefully hear the same thing. Writing shouldnt be for others though it should be for the person who is writing it expressing their ideas and just letting others see their ideas.

uhhhhh NOT poems

Poems really as if this could get any worse! In the first poem Haas talks about how hard it is to describe the way a tree moves in the wind and Jones is on the ocean.
Both poems talk about the difficulty of launguage, what i mean by this is how the writer may mean one thing but the reader may take the phrase or book and portray it in a totally different way. With words meaning so many different things how can you say something and expect for someone to know exactly what you mean unless you are there to explain exactly what you mean! Writers have a very difficult time in order to make sure their meaning is understood.
Haas uses a tree to explain the growth of launguage by using a tree. A tree is planted as a sapling and grows and grows until it is a large and gorgeous part of nature. The vocabulary and meanings of words grow like the trees grows showing the true difficulty of using one word to just mean one thing.
I rather liked the metaphor that Jones used to get his point across. When he pours the drink into the water and it is dissolved and becomes part of the whole ocean. When you write the meaning you try to get across can be lost in the ocean of words just like the drink is lost in the water. Words have many meanings and when read by another that meaning that you once saw so clear when you wrote it or said it can be lost, misunderstood, and misconstrued into the way the reader or listener believes it to be or wants it to be.

learnig and mankind

This was a wonderful read and just made me so happy you have absoluetly no idea. I wish there was a a sarcasm font because i know this is supposed to be enjoyable but boy o boy this is just not me."Collabrative learning and the conversation of mankind" by Kenneth Bruffee was looking into the issue about collabrative learning in the classrooms. What i grasped to be the main point of this article, in which really i have no intrest in since i am almost dont with my education (thank goodness), was how knowledge is ultimately derived. Is knowledge gained through interaction, are we born with it, or is it a gift that we are given?

I honestly believe that the way we gain knowledge is different for everyone because some people learn by interacting with others and expressing ideas and others gain knowledge from reading and practing what they have learned. Of course we are given the ability to think and make decisions for ourselves otherwise we would be like zombies just doing what we are told or mopping around acting idiotic. I sometimes feel like i am a zombie during school in general because i am just trying to do the bare necessity to scrap by and do absolutely no thinking. Sometimes thinking hurts, especially when it is something you really really do not care anything about.

If it was for interaction in some of my class i would probably hate each and every class because most of the ones i am in currently are very boring and uninteresting to me. This leads my mind to wander and for me not to give an iota of care for anything that the professor says. I definitely like to work in groups because the input of others help to come to a conclusion quicker in most cases and the distribution of work allows for more information to be discovered in a shorter period of time and allow for an answer to be found quicker. But then on the other hand i dont mind working on my own because i can count on myself and honestly do not have much faith in others since i like things done my way.

who is on first, what is on second?

Viola: "Then think you right. I am not what I am."
Olivia: "I would you were as I would have you be." (III.i.148-149)

The statements are very straight forward, I think, because Viola is being completely honest when saying her line becayse she is not what she is portraying herself to be, a man when in acctuality she is a woman just like Olivia. Olivia is lovestruck, just as Malvolio is when he comes across the letter , by Cesario who is actually Viola (a woman) and puts Cesario on a pedestal because she feels that Cesario is her true beloved. Viola knows that Olivia is way off base becuase first off she is really a woman and secondly the Duke is trying to court her using Viola and the more Viola pushes the Duke onto Olivia the more infatuated she becomes to Viola.

crush it and they will bow to me

Malvolio: "......and yet to crush it a little, it would bow to me...." (II.v.143-145)

This scene really makes me laugh because it shows what love can do to a man. Malvolio is completely lovestruck and blinded by the hope that this letter he is reading is about him. He completey misconstrues the letter to make it seem as if it is about him. Little does he know it was written by Maria and not Olivia. He says crush because he wants to crush the letters to make his name fit into it and if he does crush it the letter will bow to him and therefore it would mean that Olivia would really love him. We all know this is untrue unfortunately he doesnt.

Wait who is the man?

Viola: "I am the man" (II.ii.25)

Wait, hold on a second maybe i am confused but isnt Viola a woman?!?!?! How can she be the man if in fact she is a woman. Ironic isnt it because she is a woman saying this quote that just about every man today says when they get their testotarone flowing. This is where you see all the love connections being made. Oliva loves the person Viola is trying to be, "the MAN" or Cesario, but Viola is actually in love with the Duke so it is a very weird situation. Just like the statement made my Viola.

Deciphering the meaning of tihs language

A quote that really stuck out in my mind while reading was in Act 2 Scene 3 Line 170-174 in which Maria says, " Sport royal, I warrant you. I know my physic will work with him. I will plant you two, and let the Fool make a third, where he shall find the letter. Observe the construction of it. For this night, to bed, and dream on the event. Farewell."

This quote as you may recall was done as a free write in class and I felt the need to talk about it further and put more thought into it. We went over want we thought sport royal meant and I from the other information given to use in and around this excerpt only can only connect it with the form of hunting as was done during these times where royalty would go out and corner and trap their prey. Maria is planning on trapping and trying to making Malvolio look like a for lack of a better terms a "fool". She is going to try and destroy him and in order to do so she is going to use Sir Toby and Sir Andrew to make her plan fall into place and also use the Fool as a third party and make her plan really meaningful and make sure that Malvolio is humiliated. She seems to have an intricate plan which she is starting to put into the works but before she really gives to much she departs and this allows you to see that Malvolio is the hunted and Maria, Sir Toby, and Sir Andrew are the hunters trying to corner, capture, and kill Malvolio. The fool i think is just a scapegoat who will be used to make the plan stronger.

What I did not understand in Act 1 of Twelfth NIght

1. I really did not understand when it said that Cesario was going to go and make love to Olivia for Orsino? Did he mean it in the literal sense or that he was going to her in order to sweep her off her feet and help him to make Olivia fall in love with him?
2. What is the point of Olivia mourning her brothers death for so long? Is there a reason why she would do this or is she truly heartbroken and just needs the time to cope with his death?
3. Why does Olivia's drunken Uncle or cousin (Sir Toby) try and set him up with his friend (Sir Andrew)? Does he have a motive for doing so?
4. All I know is it takes me a while to trust some one but Duke Orsino trusts Cesario so quickly (3 days).......WHY?
5. Why does Viola become Cesario and dress like a man? Why couldn't she just stay a woman?
6. I did not understand the conversation with Olivia and the Fool? He seems to have something else going on....Does he?

The wilderness in our hands

Global Warming, is it even real? What causes the trees spoke about in the article "Taking Wilderness in hand" by Michelle Nijhuis to become SICK and die. I felt I needed to speak on a couple topics from this article that i kept thinking of when reading. You have to care because this is our world and the trees help us to live and is a vital part to the life cycle. Trees give us air that i think is very important to our survival because it is a basic necessity for life. Not that this article was not interesting but i just did not agree with anything that was happening or going on. I personally believe that instead of wasting money on moving these trees we must figure out WHY they are dieing because just by moving to a different area does not mean that the disease is magically gone. This is not a realm where things just disappear but a place were everything recirculates so we must find ways to fix problems instead of just moving aside and waiting for it to return. I wanted to find out about global warming and i decided in my opinion that it does not exist because in history it shows that during the period between ice ages it is the hottest just as in a hurricane when it is the calmest in the eye of the storm. We must definitely protect the wildlife but awe must also preserve and try to keep in focus all the things that we need to fix and keep moving forward and making the earth a better and more beautiful place.

Virtual IRAQ

Virtual Iraq by Sue Halpern is an article that i was very interested in reading and actually no offense to the other writers actually wanted to read. This is a topic i was very interested in because i know how PTSD can affect a person and i have many friends that are currently overseas defending our country. The place where i learned most about PTSD was actually in my own home and not from reading an article. This disorder does not have to be associated with just our military but can be connected with many of the men and women whom helped saved lives on what caused us to start the war. Many of the police and fireman who had to go into the city and help try and saves lives of the people in the world trade center can have systems of this. We may never know the feeling of seeing a loved one pass away right in front of you but my father did. The firehouse is a close knit family were you all take care of each other and actually become like a real family. My father watched many of his brothers die right in from of him because of what those animals did! He watched one of his best friends be hit by a jumper right in front of him. I thank God everyday for watching over my father and keeping him here with me. He was diagnosed with many illnesses from 9/11 but the one that took a large affect on him in the eyes of the family was PTSD. There are things that trigger emotions or reactions that wouldn't bother any of us. This is very serious and i just felt connected to the article and wanted to read it because i truly respect and am grateful to each person who fights for out freedom.

SMALL OBJECT, large subject

I know this is cliche and has already been done by others in this class but the topic i have to talk about is red bull. The reason i have choose to speak about red bull is because as the slogan for the energy drink says 'RED BULL GIVES YOU WINGS'. This is something i can really use at the moment because since the start of this class i have really fallen behind and am working vigorously to catch up. Those so call wings that they speak of i could really really use since i am not much of a writer and find this difficult. The energy drinks gives you a quick and very helpful boost but when it ends you crash but for the time you have the energy boost it is much needed. Since i have been in college this energy drink has helped to pull all nighters to make sure i can make the deadlines that crept up on me do to my own laziness.

When i was in high school i remember what my mom would always say when i asked if i could have a red bull. She always told me that i didn't need the wings, that they advertised in the commercials. I never needed it for the boost of energy but i realized that just because i was told it was bad for me and i wasn't allowed it made me want it more. The pure boost of sugar filled energy that rushed through me when i had consumed every last drop of the yummy sugar loaded slice of heaven. I was jumping of the walls and honestly even though it sounds ridiculous, but i felt like i was flying because i was moving around so and felt like i was more awake than ever. It was also pretty amazing since i took the drink before the football game that night so for the entire game i was on a sugar hi along with the rush of adrenaline so i was definitely on top of the world.

The only side affect was that after the game i crashed all the adrenaline and sugar gone and no longer boosting my energy i felt like i couldn't move. I didn't know if i had exerted myself to much in the game but then i realized i was always fine during the game and after but it was different today because i had taken the red bull prior to it. The crash from the energy drink definitely was not worth the hi that i received from it but i still take it because in some cases it is necessary (LIKE IN THE CASE OF TONIGHT AND WRITING THESE BLOGS). This experience is just mind and i have seen the drink have different affects on different people and you really have to experience it for yourself before making a decision on whether or not it is something for you.

Many people believe that these drinks are unhealthy for you because of all of the sugar and caffeine that is generally associated with them. We see red bull as a quick fix which will allow us to stay awake longer and allow us to get more done. Red bull is a very popular drink and has even begun to vary the type of drinks or shots they make. They have made shots that contain less caffeine and even drinks that are SUGAR FREE. Could that be true an energy drink with no sugar, can it work the same as the original. These are all valid questions but questions you must answer on your own and try the new products.

Hi-tech Trash

Did you know what happened to your old computer or self phone when you get ride of it? Well i certainly did not have any idea before reading the article 'Hi-Tech Trash' by Chris Carroll. The fact that they take the obsolete technology and just dump it in poor downtrodden countries isn't right and actually really bothered me because this is the planet that we live on and we need to take care of it not only for ourselves but on the future generations that will need to use the soil and water that we are polluting just because we are to cheap or lazy to dispose of the technology in the correct manner. What the materials that we dispose of leak or do to the earth is a direct threat to our future and the environment. The e-waste, as it was called in the article, does to the environment is awful and we need to make sure of is the way the hi-tech trash is being taken care of. When i get rid of the old computers or old phones i never checked because i figured they recycled or refurbished the parts so that they could be used to make another hi-tech piece of equipment. I had no idea how the products were disposed of and to be honest at the time i didn't care at all but looking at what i know now it is very important that we take care of excess or unneeded technology in the right ways. I know i will be more into helping the environment and getting rid of the technology the right way.

Toulimin Model about CARR

In this Blog i will be taking the article is 'Google making us stupid?' by Nicholas Carr and putting it up against the Tolumin Model. In this model you seek out five terms which are the claim, statement of claim, subclaims, support and warrants. I will start with the first part of the model which is the claim.
What I gathered to be the claim was that he was trying to explain to the reader that google and other search engines were making us lazy and making us lose the ability to focus or complete the task we were working on. This is something I can agree with to a point but it brings me to question is it the artificial intelligence that makes us lazy or is it our own mental capacity that isn't allowing us to finish. If you have the motivation and drive the search engine isn't going to make you lazy, only you can make yourself lazy not a computer.
The next part of the model is the statement of claim which in other terms is his purpose statement which is the purpose statement or what the author is trying to really get across. The point that i feel Carr is really trying to get across, even though i do not agree with the article, is as he says, "I am not thinking the way i used too". He is trying to make the point that google is ruining the way he used to think and is conforming his mind into what it is and only allows it to skim the surface of the information.
Subclaims are reasons or arguments the author makes to support his claim and make you understand why he feels the way he does, I also believe in my own opinion that this goes hand in hand with support which is the evidence for his subclaims. Carr uses quotes taken from other Internet bloggers along with his own claims that makes it strengthen the claim of the article. All of the evidence that he gives helps to show and prove that his opinion is right. But in my opinion he only gives you his warrants that support the side for his claim. This is not an objective article because he puts all the blame on the search engine and does not hold the person accountable for making himself/herself lazy and lose the ability to think that they once did.

Is google making us stupid?!?!?!

The question at hand is whether a type of artificial intelligence is making us stupid? Just thinking about he question makes me think how can a type of intelligence make us stupid. The search engine Google allows you to search for information in the blink of an eye, and makes it so simple for you to find anything you are looking for or want to know. The only problem at hand is that when you use google it doesn't give you the full amount of work published only the particular part that you want. This in most cases only allows you to skim the surface of the topic instead of immersing yourself fully into the complete aspect of the topic. Also just having that type of accessibility to any form of information can allow your mind to wondering and veer away from what you are really trying to accomplish or finish. I believe that the question that should be asked here is do people have the ability to research the more into a topic that interest that or why does a person not have the ability to stay focused on the task at hand.
What must be taken into account when thinking of this topic is what is making you not focus on what you are doing or why do you lose interest in a certain topic and begin to do something totally unrelated to what you were doing at that time. In my opinion i believe that the technology is great and allows you to do and find out whatever makes you happy or interests you. When a person is really interested in what they are doing they focus on that particular objective and complete it without interruption because it is something they want to do and not something they are forced to do.
When being forced to do something it is like pulling teeth, it is a difficult process because no one wants to be made to do something that is not something they are involved in or find to be interesting. When the world uses google for something they want or something they are interested in they use it to find everything out bout that topic or item and just don't skim but immerse themselves fully into the topic. Google does not make us stupid the fact that we do not have the self control to stay dedicated to the work at hand and make excuses for why we didn't do something or what is causing us to deteriorating the persons ability to stay focused. The blame should not be thrown at google but put on the people itself for becoming as the article says STUPID.
