  1. Dirk is the CEO of this town's business. Meth amphetamines is clearly one of the viable products left in the town and clearly buisness is booming. He gains power from the town itself, and will retain it as long as his product is sellable.

  2. Why is drug abuse so viable here?

  3. The box contains the past -- photos of Nora actually that Ray clings to in his saddest, most desperate moments. The first time Ray is shown peering into the box he has just delivered his son Edward into R'ch'lle's arms. Ray must be remembering that love (or the idea of love) is not usually so sordid. Little does Ray know that Edward's encounter with R'ch'lle will turn out to be an important relationship and not at all what it starts out to be.

  4. @ professor Lay,
i think the reason that drug abuse is so prevalent in the town is because there really is nothing else to do. Trona has become such a sad place that its residents have turned to recreational turned habitual drug use. As most of them also dont have jobs (since there are really no jobs to be had) they have no real reason to NOT do drugs. No one really sees college as a post-highschool option so basically why not do drugs?

  5. 1. I think Dirk has all of the power in the neighborhood because has something that most of the people who live there want: meth. As far as I can tell he is the only provider of it and that gives him some authority. His bitchass personality is what drives him to do soemthing of the ridiculous things and make some of the absurd demands of the residents that he makes.
